declutter Clear Your Clutter, Change Your Life!

~ by Karen Ali

Sounds so simple, but if it were that easy, more of us would, be living clutter-free lives with everything in its place, have great ease finding items, and have great things – experiences, people and more – coming into our lives. The Be Clean clutter clearing program has been a godsend. The online course is broken up into daily 15-minute clutter busting sessions, which makes it manageable, and there is a ton of support the whole way!

Be Clean Clutter Clearing Program was the Answer to a Prayer

The email about the 30-day clutter cleaning online course was such a gift – it came at the right time. I knew that I needed help and support through clearing not only the closet but many other spaces. An interactive online course with a supportive and accomplished expert would help. Also, the fact that I would be on this journey with other women was great! We have a Facebook group, where we can connect and report our progress.

The course motivates you with a call from Tera and Vanessa and then participants receive a daily email with a goal for that day’s 15-minute clutter busting session. There are also recordings throughout the 30 days that are very helpful.

At Vanessa’s suggestion, I decided to initially focus on the bedroom. It’s the most important part of my house and important to keep clean if you want healthy relationships – romantic and otherwise.

Clutter Can Block Your Path Literally and Figuratively

One thing Vanessa said on one of the course calls is that clutter blocks your path, not only literally, but it can distract you from your purpose in life.

“The more trappings you have, the more you get distracted from what you do,” she said.

It’s really true that I often feel bogged down and have too many projects going on, finding it hard to focus on the important things.

I started getting rid of magazines in my room, as well as paperwork. While I was able to throw out magazines – one as old as 2007 – I wasn’t able to deal with all the paper clutter, but I moved it to the office. It shouldn’t be in the bedroom.

I had decided a while back to have a tag sale, so I removed some unnecessary items from the bedroom – like a cool party hat I got from a birthday party, some jewelry and some clothes I haven’t worn in years – and put them in the tag sale pile.

I also tackled a few different rooms throughout the house, putting DVDs, jewelry, clothes, books and decorative items into the tag sale pile.

If you pay attention, you really notice how good things start coming in your life when you improve your space.

There was an invite to the lake house of a childhood friend, meeting several really interesting healers in my area who have wonderful advice and tips, and being reunited with a college friend who invites me to her beach house in South Carolina. Someone sent me a gift in the mail, and it wasn’t even a special occasion.

I started feeling good about things.

Pick The Best And Get Rid Of The Rest

At a certain point, after a few really good clutter busting days, however, I started to feel overwhelmed. Weighing on me were heirloom items, unfinished craft projects and stuff I spent money on but never used.

I posted in my online journal and on Facebook and Vanessa sensed I was struggling. She offered a phone call to help me through it.

I moved light years ahead after talking with Vanessa, who stayed on the phone with me while we went through the overstuffed linen closet. She knew I needed an “easy win,” something that I could tackle quickly and feel good about, so that is why we focused on the linen closet.

Vanessa made me feel better about putting my mother’s nice linens and my grandmother’s crocheted blankets in the tag sale pile. I picked the best and got rid of the rest.

She emphasized how we don’t need material items to feel connected to someone – it’s about the energy of the person, not the object, especially when the item or too many of them are making your living space difficult. She told me that my mother wouldn’t want me to be burdened with all her things, as nice as they are.

I knew all this on some level but it was helpful to hear it from her.

She really knows her stuff – she was right. Just finishing one project successfully made me feel so much better and motivated me to start on another closet/room/or pile. I felt that if I could do it once, I could tackle the rest of the house.

Using some of the tools I learned through the course, I set out to get ready for the tag sale.
