Green Smoothie Recipe: Green Hummingbird Breeze

Summer’s official start is just around the corner (at least here in the Northern hemisphere), and as such, I thought it’d be a great time to share a delicious, easy, breezy, summery green smoothie recipe from the Green Smoothie Queen’s Complete Guide to Green Smoothies E-book!

I selected this recipe to share in part due to its name — Green Hummingbird Breeze — and because I absolutely love hummingbirds.  They are so beautiful to watch, and there seems to be a sense of grace and serenity in the way they move.  It’s also said that hummingbirds symbolize joy, and what better way to experience joy than drinking a green smoothie while simultaneously watching hummingbirds?!  🙂

I was also inspired to share this green smoothie recipe with you because a dear friend of mine had an opportunity to actually touch and pet a hummingbird the other day!  Isn’t that amazing?!  There’s a hummingbird’s nest in his yard, and the hummingbird was in her nest when she allowed my friend to pet her.  When I saw this recipe after hearing about his experience with the hummingbird, I just knew THIS was the recipe to share.

And aside from its name, this recipe sounds delicious!

So, without further ado, here it is…

Mango Ingredient in Green Smoothie Recipe

Green Hummingbird Breeze

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mixed berries, frozen
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 5 strawberries, frozen
  • 1/2 mango — skinned, seeded and chopped
  • 2-3 ice cubes (or more, if you’d like it more slushy)
  • As many handfuls of fresh greens as you dare! (I’d suggest trying arugula, also known as rocket)

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in your handy dandy blender, and then blend it baby! Blend!  😉

Feel free to experiment with this recipe.  For example: Try putting in a whole orange instead of its juice; use fresh berries instead of froze ones; use a whole mango instead of half a mango; use less ice, or more ice, or no ice!  The possibilities are endless. For me, part of the joy I get in drinking green smoothies comes from experimenting with different ingredients!

After drinking this lovely green smoothie, you’ll be sure to be buzzing with joy — just like a hummingbird!  🙂
