How To Get Your Kids To Eat Their Greens

How To Get The Kids On Board with JUICING!

- by Jay and Linda Kordich

We have raised two boys, who are now in their late 20?s.  One of our children was so finicky, he would gag at the thought of eating cooked vegetables, or even if certain foods were touching other foods on the plate. This went on for years and years.

It was incredibly frustrating for us, but through ingenuity and patience, we have found a solution for even the finickiest of eaters!

Linda Kordich Reveals Why Digestion is the #1 Key to Superior Health!

Written by Danielle on July 15, 2011 – -

Digestion is the #1 Key to Superior Health!

by Linda Kordich

Drawing on over 40 years experience in juicing, living and natural foods, in 2006 Linda Kordich helped to write and produce the “Live Foods, Live Bodies” program with her husband ‘Juice Daddy’ Jay Kordich. She now accompanies Jay around the world teaching, inspiring and motivating people to eat more living foods.  You’ll love this personal insight into how Linda came to know the incredible power of juicing as an aid to digestion.  According to Jay and Linda, effective digestion is the #1 key to obtaining superior health.

Here’s her story…

For many decades, I have had the privilege to be married to Jay Kordich, the Father of Juicing.  Yet, prior to me meeting Jay, I had come from a family of Vegetarians and big juicing advocates.  Ever since I was a child, I could hear the roar of that juicer running every afternoon after I came home from school.  I am grateful to my mother for doing this for me.  It changed my life forever, and I had no idea at the time, that juicing would play such a pivotal role in my life.  Carrot/apple/celery was always on the menu, and even at the age of 11 or so, I felt it was one of the only real things my mother did for me that made me feel special.

Raw Mom Approved: Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead

Written by althea on May 30, 2011 – -

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

I’ll say it at the top: the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead gets “two thumbs up” from me. Watch it and be amazed. The movie chronicles the juice fast journeys of three people: the filmmaker Joe Cross, Siong Norte, and the you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it Phil Staples.

Take Your Best Shot: Getting to Know Wheatgrass!

Written by admin on January 10, 2011 – -

- by Michelle Rankin

A shot of wheatgrass seemed so… sexy?, alternative?, healthy?, gross?.

I’d heard for years about people in big cities with juice bars drinking wheatgrass shots as if it was the finest breakfast tequila, but I had no idea just exactly what wheatgrass could be.

Then we moved to a slightly more metropolitan area and I actually saw wheatgrass for sale in my local organic grocer so I bought a little 4 inch square pot for $4.00, then realized I didn’t have an appropriate juicer. It didn’t matter anyway because my cat proceeded to help herself to the entire little square and I discovered it too near her litter box to reclaim.

I should have realized at that point that it was exactly the same stuff I bought, called Cat Grass at my local pet store, but we’ll get to my realizations about what wheatgrass is a little later.  I needed a new juicer anyway, so I bought a sleek little Omega 8005 and vowed to figure out this wheatgrass stuff. Eh! What’s Up Doc?

Written by admin on November 23, 2009 – -

carrotsCarrots aren’t just good for Bugs Bunny to munch on! Or just for giving your smoothies an orange color! They are also an excellent vegetable, having both nutritional and medicinal values which are essential for our optimum health.

They contain a very complete nutrition to provide our body with essential enzymes, vitamins and minerals. A single carrot will supply all your vitamin A needs for the whole day. In fact, Chinese medical practitioners recommend eating carrots to give your liver more energy!

Carrot Juice is an excellent source of pro-vitamin A, vitamins C, D, E, K, B1 and B6.  Carrots are also rich in biotin, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and sodium. They also offer an excellent source of beta-carotene which is an anti-oxidant that has health benefits that has been reported to positively affect a variety of conditions and diseases, including:

•    Balancing blood acidity and blood sugar.
•    Detoxifying the liver and reducing toxicity in the body
•    Reducing the risk of heart diseases and stroke by cleansing deposits in the arteries
•    Providing protection from infection for the respiratory system
•    Reducing the risk of cancer
•    Lowering cholesterol levels
•    Easing nasal congestion
•    Regulating problems with chronic constipation
•    Keeping the optic system in good condition – we’ve all heard that carrots help you see in the dark!
•    Reducing inflammation and easing arthritis and rheumatism
•    Building the immune system
•    Nourishing the skin and helping to prevent psoriasis and acne
Chinese practitioners have said that carrots taste sweet, and are good for the health of spleen and stomach.

The best thing about carrots is that they are easily assimilated by our body, especially when blended or juiced, to break down the cell walls.

So try adding carrots to your juices and smoothies, enjoy their colour and taste, and relish the fact that you are nourishing your body optimally at the same time!

Special Guest Teleseminar: Jay and Linda Kordich on Building Healthy Families

Written by Tera on June 10, 2009 – -

As part of the lead-up for The Raw Mom Summit, I thought I would spend time focusing on people that have some wisdom and experience to share about motherhood and parenting. It just so happens that the Father of Juicing himself is available this Friday afternoon and he and his wife will be joining me for a SUPER inspirational teleseminar.

Jay Kordich started his introduction to this lifestyle almost 60 years ago after an unfortunate cancer scare. Jay was “The Juiceman” and his name rang through the household walls of millions of people. (Even Jim Carey, the comedian, did a spoof on Jay. I watched it this morning for a giggle.)

They say behind every great man is a great woman, and in this case  there certainly is no exception as the love of Jay’s live is also the marketing and business development wizard that helped make the Juiceman rave happen.

I’m honored to be able to bring these two to the airwaves for an inspiring teleseminar on Friday afternoon. You can read a lot more about both of them on their website. They have a wealth of resources and experiences from which you can learn.

I’ve asked both of them to come to share some of their perspectives on what it takes to have a healthy family and to share some of the experiences they had growing through this movement. I just know you’re going to looove this call, because what few emails I’ve shared back and forth with Linda have been a real treat!

HERE is where you access the information for this call!

Tune in Friday and I look forward to speaking with you then!!

Love and hugs,

Tera

(90-Day Detox) Day 78: Love Without Limits

Written by Tera on May 12, 2009 – -

Goooooood morning, Sunshine!

Yesterday was my first day of Green Juices. I SO wasn’t prepared and didn’t eat enough at all, so I think that’s part of the reason I’m feeling a bit… bleeech this morning. It’s like having a window into the toxic moments of my life. A physiological reminder of the less-wonderful things I’ve done to myself.

I guess this is detox. ;-) I’m humbled by this experience. I feel calm. I feel green. I would love to dive into fruit, but I really can see what a difference this makes.

Excuse the juicy details, but I don’t think you’ll mind… I’ve noticed candida moving its way out of the system. It flared up recently for the first time in 6 years! i don’t know what it was… the fruit, the fat, the astral projections for Virgo?

I didn’t manage to get to my yoga class yesterday, but in light of the under-eating, that’s probably a good thing. Today I’ve already hydrated, I’m about to do an intestinal FLUSH! (don’t you love the juicy details ;-) ) and then going to keep that juicer busy all day long.

I find all the green makes me COLD!! They say foods have warming and cooling properties. I know bananas in the winter make me SHIVER!! And all this green food has me feeling pretty chilly. I’m not sure how long I’ll continue with juices. I nibbled on a few green veggies yesterday–not more than a couple tablespoons and I tried to spit out the fiber when I remembered. I guess that’s “cheating” but I really don’t care. ;-) Today I’ll try to be a bit more “strict” about it just for the sake of seeing what happens but I think KEY is having enough juice ready to go.

I’m missing fruit BIG TIME, but committed to riding out this process and observing the reactions taking place in my body. I went through an initial elation, but now am feeling very CALM and observant.

Focused.

Clear-headed.

I admit that it was strange to go for dinner last night. While they ate fajitas, I had a wine glass with green swamp water in it. One of the things that was really GREAT about that experience is it confirmed for me that it is NOT a big deal to order a salad or eat veggies when people are having dinner with their regular cooked food fare at the same table. It’s a whole different  ball game to politely sip swamp water while they pile on an extra serving of salsa and look at you a bit confused.

Anyone who says they don’t know how to socialize as a raw foodist has officially lost my sympathy. Order a salad! Nothin’ to it! If you think it’s tough, order a green juice. The salad feels like steak after that. ;-)

Yesterday’s blog post struck a chord with many of you and I’m soooooo glad. It’s empowering to realize that the only thing holding you back is YOU! Empowering and humbling too, I suppose. As much as we try to find “excuses” or “justifications” for not being where we say we want to be, there there’s no one tying us down to shove pretzels in our faces. ;-)

It’s your hand EVERY TIME that brings food to your mouth so YOU are in the driver’s seat, Baby.

I watched myself in the driver’s seat yesterday. There’s a certain amount of discipline involved in doing juices for only one day. I can tell you, it was A LOT easier with Mr. Right around. I’ve tried SO many times and never been able to do it on my own. I mentioned that he was totally committed to supporting me for this process. He’s been AMAZING! The Detox Doctor checking in on my all the time.

Funny, because after having supported over 15,000 women on a detox, I hadn’t realized how much I needed a bit of support myself.

I’ve never felt THAT supported before in my weird food adventures. I think most people are just overwhelmed with the strange extremism of what I do. It didn’t matter to him how strange it sounded, he just wanted to know what my goals were and then do whatever it took to help me achieve them.

In general it also helped to be distracted by the events of being together, instead of here, on my own with the fridge whispering my name. I really think community is important. I really do think we’re better together.

This song kinda sums up where I’m at on that subject!

Watching the evolution of this new relationship with Mr. Right has given me new insights into Divaland because it’s like a microcosm for our community. Some say, “You’re only as a strong as your weakest link.”

Today I disagree with that idea.

I watch how my strengths compliment Mr. Right’s weaknesses. I watch how my weakness finds strength in his “way of being”. I think we are better together and I’m not just talking about me and Mr. Right. I’m talking about all of us. How many things have you been able to achieve as part of this community? How many times have you been given strength by reading someone else’s story? How many times have you felt lousy, then gone to a park or received a phone call that perked you up?

We can do so much to support and strengthen each other. It goes without saying, that we can also be dragged down and negatively influenced by others as well. There’s been some talk on the blog of negative relationships, and I think it’s a valuable subject to address in light of the detox theme we’re still working with. I can say that I’ve definitely encountered some toxic relationships in my life. But I can also see how MY behavior, MY responses, MY fears, MY insecurities, MY unhandled crap were in large part responsible for the toxicity.

Sometimes life dishes out surprises in the form of interesting people. ;-) Sometimes we choose emotions like anger, resentment and blame and direct it toward others. This is a self-destructive process since you’re the only one swirling in negative emotions when you do this. No matter how bad a situation or relationship gets there is ALWAYS, ALWAYS something you can do to improve it.

A cat can’t scratch a glass pole.

People can’t irritate, annoy or get your goat unless YOU have your own issues for them to grab onto. Situations and people can’t shake you up, unless you’ve got stuff that can be shaken. ;-)

Do you know what I mean?

There’s always SOMETHING you can do to improve a situation, ANY situation, EVERY situation, EVEN THE SITUATIONS YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR. And a part of you knows there’s something you can do.

In my life I’ve gone to all kinds of extremes, different books, authority figures and friends looking for answers to what life is all about. I learned the most in relationship to other people. I learn the most when I fearlessly dive into the experience of living with LOVE for the people and experiences around me because I recognize I DO have some degree of responsibility for them. When you look out at the world through responsibility-tinted glasses, you gain a certain degree of leverage. It’s like you own your life just a little bit more. That’s a beautiful thing.

If none of this has made any sense at all, then allow me to take the role of victim to the effects of the bok choy, parsley, celery, broccoli and cucumber juice that is making its way through my system right now.

I think my brain is on detox, so rather than belabor what risks being a rather convoluted blog post (which I will post anyway, by the way) I best get off to handling other unfinished tasks.

I’ll leave you with this thought:

I tried to find a motto for myself at one point and the only words that really resonated were “love without limits”.

It works for me. Sounds simple, but I’m okay with that. Whether you apply it to your relationship with yourself, your food, your environment, friends or family, there’s always something you can do to find a graceful space within. There’s always something you can to to stretch the boundaries of how much love  you allow yourself to give, to receive and shine out onto the world.

Hope you got through Day One okay, Sugarplum.

Detoxing diva,

Tera

Special Teleseminar Guest #10: David Rainoshek: The Juice Feaster

Written by Tera on April 14, 2009 – -

I’ve tried a few times and I really had good intentions.

I bought all the greens, the carrots, the fruit, etc.

But when squeeze came to squirt, I just wasn’t up for the Juice Feasting extravaganza. And so I wrote a letter to David and Katrina Rainoshek of Juice Feasting.Com and asked him if he would join me for an emergency Rescue Mission.

  • What does it take to get started on a Juice Feast?
  • What are the most common pitfalls I need to avoid?
  • What about all the people who binge after and then feel worse?
  • How should I prepare for a juice Feast properly?
  • What about fiber?? Don’t I NEED that?
  • What are some of the success stories you’ve heard about from people who have done juice feasting?
  • Are there any types of people or conditions for which it would be better to avoid Juice Feasting?

These are a few of my questions, but there will be more. For now, here’s a bit more about them, so you can read up on him in preparation for the call.  This is a big week! Stay on top of the blog posts because it’s going to be action-packed! This call is happening SOON! 1:00pm EST on Tuesday! That’s in about 90 minutes!

If you missed it, no worries. You can catch the recording HERE!

Hope you enjoy this call and I look forward to speaking with some of you very soon!

(90-Day Detox) Day 44: The First Rule Of Juice Feasting

Written by Tera on April 1, 2009 – -

Yesterday’s blog post provoked an interesting discussion and I love that things are heating up around here a bit. I so appreciate that we’ve all created a space safe enough to say it like it is. At least, I hope we have. I love that our experiences feed into each other and that we’re evolving our understanding of health and life and living.

I like being held accountable. I appreciate it when Shaun tells me I’m being a goof, or when Karyn corrects me on something. Being challenged is the best way we learn new things. So challenge me! I really try hard to make ethical, responsible choices and stand behind them. I try not to wear too much social veneer or change myself to be who others want me to be. I’m not looking for praise, approval or sympathy. Just looking to get through this wild and crazy adventure of life with the least amount of broken limbs and the most amount of fun and good deeds under my belt. I think life is more fun as a team effort, so I’m thrilled to have you all here and to be a part of this community.

Feels pretty neat.

I made some big green juices this morning. Very good of me, I think, being so proactive and all. But they taste absolutely awful and I’m having a very hard time choking it back. I think I ODed on dandelion. Blllleeeech! I was pleased with myself for getting up early and making a whole bunch of juice, because if there’s one thing I can say I have figured out about juice feasting is this very important rule:

Important Rule #1:  If You’re Going to do a Juice Feast, You Have to Make Juice.

Seems simple, I know, but you’d be surprised how long it took me to figure that one out. ;-) It doesn’t matter how many times I wash my celery or fluff my chard or organize my juicer on the counter, unless I dirty that beast and start shoving produce through the pipes I will never get any juice. (I can’t believe that I took 5 years to make a green juice eventhough I had a Green Power Mega Machine juicer the entire time.)

Reading other people’s blogs about juice feasting also never got me to make a juice. It was only when someone made a juice for me that I realized, “Heeey, this stuff is good” and from there I was hooked and it became worth the effort.

Also, I think it’s pretty important to make a lot of juice, so that you are really prepared when hunger strikes. If you don’t have enough, I think it’s too easy to grab a banana. Anyway, today is Juice Feast Day 1: Take 245.

I loved Karyn’s email to me about this situation:

Hi Tera,

After I wrote my comment for yesterday’s blog post,  I was thinking some more about juice feasting. I too have wanted to try it. In the past year or so I’ve poured over David Rainochek’s site, read Angela Stokes’ juice feasting e-book and followed Phillip McCluskey’s juice feasting journey. But like you, I didn’t make it a whole day on just juice.

I started thinking about what you (and I) have been writing/learning about…taking things on a gradient, listening to our bodies, learning to do what’s right for our own individual selves… and I remembered a couple of things: There’s a wonderful Native American saying “Don’t push the river”. In other words, go with the flow and don’t try to swim upstream. So I was thinking, maybe those of us who haven’t been able to get into juice feasting haven’t done so because it’s not right for our bodies (at least not at this particular time).  Of course we need to be really clear on what it is that’s keeping us from doing the feast: is it our brains/thoughts, our emotions/feelings or our bodies/physiology?

Anyway, I thought you might be interested in reading Steve Pavlina’s experience with juice feasting (if you haven’t already done so): http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2008/10/juice-feasting-day-2/

Have an awesome day!
Bright
Blessings,
Karyn

Exactly. The fact that I’m not getting through a day of juice feasting doesn’t mean I’ve “failed”. It just means I’m not where I’m trying to be. And when I’m ready and the situation is right, I’ll get there. Or not. Until then, I’m working on it by gradient. :-) And besides, all this talk about juice feasting… I’m DOING A DETOX, for Heaven’s sake. Shouldn’t that be enough? ;)

Speaking of detox, today is a big day. I’ve got quite a few things to get done, announcements to make articles to write, etc. I’m going to announce this week’s teleseminar guest! It’s already happening tomorrow! This will be Daniel Aaron, a friend of Brian’s in Bali who I think you’ll love!

Then we’re having an interview with Brendan Brazier (who I think is a real live superhero!) and  then Mr. Hair of the Year Award, Matt Monarch with a (you can ask me ANYTHING call) and then I’ve got some other playful surprises up my sleeves, but all things will be revealed in good time. Right now I’ve got to hussle my buns and get some stuff done.

Today’s the day we finally release the detox program. Fiiiiiinnnnaaaaaalllly! In the name of playful gests and giggles, my brother send me this and I simply couldn’t resist:

Check This Out for an April Fool’s Day giggle.

Love and snuggles,

Tera
