Green Kids and Sustainable Living for a Green Planet

Greetings, my gorgeous green lovin’ guys and gals!
Embracing green may certainly be a dietary choice, and yet it’s so much more. Going Green is not just about dietary choices, it’s also about lifestyle choices, with an aim that seeks to tread lightly upon this beautiful green earth of ours.
When did you learn about living and being Green? Did you learn as a child, an adolescent, or as an adult?
…Whatever your answer, I think we can all agree that the best age to learn about the environment and the impact our actions have on the world around us, is a young age. That’s where Green Kids comes in.
Green Kids Incorporated (Green Kids) is a non-profit, live-theatre group, and the first charity in Canada dedicated solely to environmental education for young people through performance.
I’m glad to say I’ve had a wonderful opportunity to work with Green Kids as a performer! I’ve been involved in three separate tours with them, performing in various schools to hundreds, if not thousands, of children. It was a wonderful experience to share a message of sustainability with our future generations.
In this article, I want to share some more info with you about Green Kids, what they do, and how YOU can play a simple yet important role in helping this wonderful organization to continue to spread its imperative message of green living and sustainability for a green planet and a greener tomorrow.
About Green Kids
Green Kids Vision, Mission, and More, are as follows:
Vision: Children changing the world.
Mission: To educate children and teachers on environmental issues and to inspire them to take positive action towards protecting our environment.
Method: Environmental education in elementary and middle schools through live theatre.
Why We Need Green Kids More Than Ever!
Green Kids has never been more relevant, timely or necessary. As the challenges facing our environment emerge to the forefront of Canadian and global consciousness, it is imperative that we teach children about our environment and the positive impact they can still have on the future of our planet.
With all of the talk in the media about global-warming, extreme weather and other environmental crises facing the world, the negative news can be scary for children. For Green Kids, the goal is to see the next generation of youth growing up with “green dreams” on their mind, not nightmares. Green Kids seeks to empower children by providing them with facts about environmental issues in a positive manner, and then equipping them with simple but effective tools to live greenly.
Teaching Green for 20 Years and Counting…
Green Kids was established in 1991 to address the need for entertaining, educational programming for school-aged children about the importance of environmental stewardship.
Geared towards inspiring a new generation of environmentally conscious adults, the first Green Kids tour was only one week long and reached 2,000 children.
In the last 20 years Green Kids has grown in vision and scope and has entertained over 1 million students, their educators, and local communities in over 1,000 schools. Additionally, they have been nominated three times for the Sustainable Development Award of Excellence.
Since its inception, Green Kids has continued to function as a highly dynamic group, continually growing in size and scope. It has toured and performed in schools throughout Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario) and has reached over 1 million children with an environmental message.
