Wild Beauty Care for Wildly Beautiful Hair
- by Heather Gardner
Our hair, like our shoes can speak volumes about who we are as a person. Do you choose to wear Crocs or Birkenstocks? platforms or Jimmy Choos? Nikes or Adidas? For those of us who rather ditch the footwear and dance barefoot by the beach or merrily skip through the May morning dew, in a flower kissed meadow - the natural choice for our hair and its care is to be found from foraging through the forest pharmacy rather than the pharmaceutical one.
In my previous blog post, I explored the properties of many plants we might find growing all around us in nature to enhance our inner Gorgeous Green Goddess. You can choose from those, as well as many herbs found in your garden and health store, to create concoctions that can turn those troublesome tresses into a crowning glory of flowing fragrant fantasy and cruise confidently and casually through the challenges of your day in an aura of floral delight.

Raw Food Recipe: Zucchini Linguini with Red Capsicum Tomato Alfredo
-by Priscilla Soligo, founder of Rawthentic Food
Are you missing your old pasta dishes? Replacing pasta noodles with zucchini can be one of the most fun tricks in the raw food book. Try this gourmet recipe on for size and let us know what you think. We have also included a recipe for a unique fig salad, over which we suggest serving this deliciousness!
By the way, keep in mind when you are munching your veggie noodles, that zucchini is high in fiber and rich in vitamins C, A, magnesium and potassium. In addition, figs are also a great source of potassium, which can help balance the pH in your body.

Wild Edibles: The Not So Humble Dandelion
- by Heather Gardner of Conscious Earth Company
Dandelions (Taraxacum officinale, member of the Sunflower family) are cheerful little plants with off the chart nutrition and medicinal qualities and rather tasty too, the leaves taste slightly bitter similar to endive. The bane of many lawn enthusiasts, they have been revered by herbalists worldwide for untold centuries, and have been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine as well as by the Native Americans. It is still cultivated as a crop in many parts of Europe such as France and Germany. Dandelions are a sensational superfood and fabulously free, fresh and unpackaged.

Raw Food Recipe: How To Make Kale Chips

Raw Food Recipe: How To Make Kale Chips
- by Karen Bell
Kale chips are a raw vegan’s potato chip. Only, unlike potato chips, kale chips are actually GOOD for you. They are full of anti-oxidants, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and cancer-preventing phytonutrients!
Kale chips are a true spiritual superhero’s superfood, which is why I eat kale chips all the time. Not a day goes by where I don’t ingest a bowl of kale chips. They are my favorite snack. And soon they will be YOUR favorite snack, too!
I’ve experimented with many different kale chip recipes. The easiest recipe is just to combine 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, which you massage into one head of kale, then dehydrate and sprinkle with sea salt.
But that recipe sounds kind of boring, doesn’t it?
The following kale chip recipe is my current favorite. I made it up myself. It was born out of a desire to replicate those lime-flavored tortilla chips. You know the ones I mean? They sure are tasty, but I’m not sure that the florescent green flavoring is healthy. So here’s a raw vegan, healthy substitute.

Written by Rachelle Fordyce on January 9, 2012 – -Essential Equipment for The Raw Food Beginner
- by Erin Stamm
If you’ve just begun experimenting with adding raw foods into your diet, or you are considering making a full lifestyle change to adopt a full-time raw food diet, all the changes you are about to make may seem a bit overwhelming.
If you previously followed a SAD deit (aka Standard American Diet) before, not only will the types of raw foods you eat be very different, but the methods of preparing them will be, too. You may be thinking you have to toss your microwave and stove and replace them with high-tech blenders and other gadgets.
Thankfully, incorporating raw foods into your diet need not be complicated or time consuming, and you don’t have to outfit your kitchen with a lot of expensive new equipment. A few basic items should be all you need to get started on your new raw food journey.
Here’s what you’ll need:

Another Sassy Free-Stuff (Santa?) Giveaway!
- by Rachelle Fordyce
The holiday season is celebrated by spending time with friends, family, loved ones and those we hold near and dear to our hearts.
But what do we typically do when we spend this time together with family and loved ones? …We eat!
This is the time of year when we find ourselves surrounded by friends, family, and food. And more food. And look, what’s that??? — Even more food!!! And while food is great and wonderful and delicious, sometimes celebrations might include a whole lotta unhealthy food, too. <gasp!> Sound the alarm!
That’s why we’re here to help! There’s no question about it: Raw desserts made with whole, natural and plant-based ingredients are definitely a lot more nutritious when compared to desserts filled with artificial dyes, colours, flavours, processed sugars, bleached flours, hydrogenated (or even partially hydrogenated) oils, not to mention the cholesterol found in butter, eggs, cream and milk!
Wishing you all the very best in Health and Happiness during the Holidays, and in being true to the spirit of the season, we’re giving away FIVE copies of our raw dessert e-book, Have Your Cake… And Eat It, Too!
Yum!
