How I Got My Daughter to Give Up Toxic Perfumes & Deodorants Part 2 [Ingredients Revealed]

All Natural Perfume & Deodorant Recipes [Top Secret Ingredients Revealed] 😉

Recently I shared some of the details of how I got my daughter off toxic perfume and deodorant. It wasn’t an easy battle, and it’s not officially over yet, but we’ve made huge progress by creating our own perfumes and deodorants. The purpose of this article is to share a bit more about the ingredients we used and a few other neat little discoveries that happened along the way.

Toxic “Perfume” Ain’t Got Nothing On the Real Thing

As I mentioned in my previous article, I knew the only way to compete with the “fragrance” industry’s hypnotic hold on my daughter was to pull out the big guns; neroli, jasmine, rose, and other hard-hitting aromatic winners. I purchased a rather large volume of organic and wild crafted essential oils and got busy. What follows are the combinations of essential oils I used to create the different perfumes that finally won Mika over. (Read a little lower to discover how I accidentally created the most AMAZING cologne for my husband and what I put it in, as well as the ingredients in my own ridiculously delicious personal perfume.)

All Natural Personal Perfume Ingredients

“Jazzy Jasmine”

No one does sassy and sexy quite like jasmine, and even more so when she’s cozied up close with a few of her cheerful citrus friends. Laced with lavender and dripping in vanilla, this blend will have all the girls smiling and their suitors swooning in the aromatic afterglow of Jazzy Jasmine.

Ingredients: Organic and wild crafted essential oils of lime, lemon, grapefruit, jasmine grandiflorum, lavender, vanilla in a base of jojoba oil, or as a spritzer in alcohol.

“Orange Blossom Bliss”

A friendly, fragrant combination of essential oils bursting with citrus. Using many different parts of the orange tree (blossoms, leaves, twigs and fruit), this neroli-based perfume is a cheerful blend of mood-boosting, beautifying botanicals that will leave you basking in Orange Blossom Bliss.

Ingredients: Organic and wild crafted essential oils of neroli, petitgrain, sandalwood, sweet orange, lemon, tangerine and a teeny little hint of ginger in a base of jojoba oil or as an alcohol-based spritzer.

“Rose Knows”

She’s been in all the best poems, songs and sonnets about love. Her aroma has charmed and enchanted countless lovers. Her botanical blessings have healed as many wounds as broken hearts. When it comes to all matters of love and seduction, if anyone knows, Rose Knows!

Ingredients: Organic and wild crafted essential oils of ylang ylang, rose, bergamot, jasmine sambac, yellow mandarin, sandalwood in a base of jojoba oil, or as an alcohol-based spritzer.

“Homemade Natural Deodorant”

If you watched Mika’s video in the previous article on this topic, you will have seen we kept things rather simple. Again, I didn’t measure exactly, but as an improvement upon her recipe I started using some arrowroot powder. Arrowroot powder softens and moisturizes the skin, and its name actually comes from the fact that it was used to draw out toxins from poison arrows! So it’s a natural detoxifier, literally drawing toxins out of your skin! (If you’ve been using conventional deodorants or antiperspirants, this is GREAT news!)  Arrowroot is used to help dry out rashes, blemishes and it can nourish and help to heal sunburn!

Ingredients:

  • baking soda
  • arrowroot powder
  • coconut oil
  • essential oils (lavender, grapefruit, orange, cypress, lime, lemongrass, thyme, tea tree, sandalwood, and soooo many others!)

Here are some more recipes and articles where you can find more about the amazing benefits of arrowroot powder  in beauty and personal care products, as well as more DIY recipes you can use to try making your own safe, natural deodorant at home! A Totally Unexpected Discovery:
The Perfect All-Natural Men’s Cologne!

While experimenting with different recipes, I came up with a combination of essential oils that I absolutely loved, but that was way too masculine for me. I bottled it up and left it aside for a couple months thinking it was a lost cause. I pulled it out recently and was SHOCKED at how amazing it smelled. I couldn’t believe it–I had accidentally created the PERFECT cologne for men!

I have tried a lot of natural men’s colognes and never found one I really liked, because they were too woodsy or musky or something. But this was amazing and even Mika totally agreed!

So I ran it by my husband (who hasn’t worn cologne or deodorants, etc. since we met) and HE LOVED IT, TOO!! It smells SO GOOD on him and, well, if I was a man, I’d probably smother myself in it! 🙂

“Moss is Boss”

Unassuming, but incredibly powerful, this intoxicating blend of botanicals should have been called, “Take Off All Your Clothes and Run Naked Through the Forest!” (Which is exactly what it will make you want to do.) Our marketing department didn’t think that would go over well, so we’ve named it after the king of this cologne, oak moss, whose  irresistible call to the wild awakens your desire to throw off the leashes and thrust yourself at Life.

Ingredients: Organic and wild crafted essential oils of bergamot, lavender, yellow mandarin, neroli, patchouli, oak moss in a base of jojoba oil or as an alcohol-based spritzer.

Why I Love Oil-Based Perfume

NOTE: I really prefer my perfumes in a jojoba base. I know a lot of people like using a spray with alcohol as the base, but I feel so much gets wasted in the spray, and I love the idea that I’m “anointing” myself with the oils directly on my skin. Also, there’s something about the scent when the essential oils are mixed with jojoba that I absolutely love!

So the ingredients for that one are listed below, too. (Again, if you don’t have your own collection of essential oils, or don’t have the time to make it yourself, you can order some from us and the details of how to do that

My Ridiculously Delicious “Elation” Perfume

So having succeeded at up-leveling everyone else’s personal perfume blend in the family, it was time for me to indulge in a little self-pampering. That’s when I came up with THE BEST perfume I’ve ever created for myself, and I thought you might enjoy having those ones, too. I’ve decided not to give the exact formula for these blends because, well, that’s what makes them “personal” perfumes. 😉 But I will share the exact ingredients and you can make your own version of it, or order the ones we made here.

I decided to name my personal perfume “Elation” after the fact that I was literally popping out of my own skin with joy and exuberance about this blend when I made it. That’s the only time I can really enjoy blending. With 3 teenagers, autism and a highly distracting husband, moonlight is my best time to make magic happen with botanicals. I had so much fun making this and truly felt like a billionaire being able to drip all these incredible essences to make my own personal perfume.

“Elation”

The art of aromatic seduction has rarely been so joyfully expressed as in this playful combination of attention-getting essential oils. Just a little whiff will start to lift your spirits and with each inhalation you’ll experience the joy of elevation by Elation.

Ingredients: Organic and wild-crafted essential oils of jasmine grandiflorum, magnolia, neroli, ylang ylang, green lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, sweet orange, sandalwood, vetiver, and vanilla.

If you don’t have your own collection of essential oils, or you don’t have the time or inclination to make it yourself, stay tuned because we’ll be making these available for purchase very soon. In the meantime, keep on the botanical bandwagon for your aromatic adventures!
