~ by Jodie Lea Cleaves

Face masks have been used by authentic beauties for centuries and were a regular and effective method of skin care long before high priced, highly chemical filled products lined the shelves of supermarket and department stores.

Homemade products were the norm before, “exclusive” day spa’s cloaked them in mystery and mumbo-jumbo, concocting countless products with unpronounceable ingredients.

As science discovers more about the skins complex ecosystem with it’s amazing microbiome, that helps absorb nutrients, converts the sun’s rays into Vitamin D, and protects against infection, you’re hopefully becoming more aware of the importance of choosing wisely what you put on your skin. And I’ll keep saying,
“If you won’t eat it, DON’T put in on your skin.”

The Benefits Of Matcha

Now while I endeavour to keep my recipes simple, with ingredients you can likely find in your kitchen cupboard, I thought this amazing ingredient was well worth a mention. If you’ve never tried Matcha before, I’m delighted to be the one to introduce it to you. 🙂

Matcha is a special type of green tea produced by shading the leaves of the green tea plant at the end of its growing cycle. This technique increases the chlorophyll content to create a very mild but bright green tea. The result is a powerful antioxidant rich blend that is absolutely delicious.

[tweet_dis]The same properties that make Matcha beneficial to drink, also make it excellent for your skin.[/tweet_dis] Some of these properties are helpful in reducing inflammation and evening skin tone while antioxidants have been reported to help reduce acne and increase your skins elasticity.

This is a simple recipe that can be made in bulk, as it stores well due to the stability of its ingredients. Most importantly it leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon Matcha Green Tea Powder
  • ½ – 1 teaspoon Raw Honey (Manuka has extra healing properties, if you have it on hand.)

Directions:

  1. Mix your honey and Matcha powder to form a paste, depending on the consistency of your honey, you may need a little more or less.
  2. Apply it to your cleansed face, not forgetting your neck and decolletage.
  3. Spread the mask evenly using gentle pressure from the pads on your fingers, massaging in small circular strokes.
  4. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Remove with a warm, wet washcloth or simply jump in the shower.
  6. Finish with a squirt of Skin Renewal Serum, or an oil of your choice.

Mmm Smooth

And that’s it, simple quick and easy, and waaaay cheaper than a trip to the day spa. Why not get a bunch of friends together and treat yourselves to a spa party. There’s nothing better for your complexion than a good old belly laugh. I’d love to see the pictures!
