Put Down Your Mobile Phone for this URGENT Announcement from the “Real World.”

~by Tera Warner

With 3000 media messages a day bombarding your brain and millions of dollars invested in the next great advertising campaign for another thing you don’t need, a girl can feel pretty distracted and insecure. Nail polish, glitter and a glossy magazine may have some temporary appeal, but if you put your attention on these superficial stimulating things, you can start to lose yourself a little and forget what really makes you feel alive!

Your Attention Is Not For Sale!

Huffington Post wrote – On Monday, a new Today/AOL “Ideal to Real” body image survey was released, and it shows that people are giving up one of their most precious possessions — time — in exchange for their looks. The survey asked more than 2,000 adults and 200 teenagers over the age of 16 how much attention they dedicate to their appearance, and its effect on their daily lives.
The survey showed adult women worry more regularly about their appearance (67 percent at least once a week or more) than they do about finances (62 percent), health (49 percent), family/relationships (46 percent) or professional success (40 percent).

It’s time to put up a “Not for Sale” sign on your mind.

Your attention is NOT for sale. That’s the very energy and attention you need to feel connected to your environment, invested in your future and inspired by your opportunities. When you invest your attention in high-drama headlines or glossy magazines, you’re selling your attention at bargain basement prices. Instead of more intimacy, a sense of feeling bright, alive and connected, you end up with another cheap, drugstore perfume to add to your collection.

Turn off the TV.

Strap on your shoes.

Go for a walk.

[tweet_dis]You don’t have to pull out your wallet or write another check to feel fabulous.[/tweet_dis] Go take a good look at the people and plants and activity in your environment and take a few deep breaths. Get present to what’s really happening in your life. Lift your chin, straighten your shoulders, and hold a little hope in your heart. Your ability to communicate with courage,  listen with compassion, and be honestly present to the people and environments around you are what it really takes to feel fulfilled, connected and alive.

Try that on for size before you buy another pair of shoes. 😉

If you’re here, you matter. Put down your mobile device and take a good look at the real world. We could use a firecracker like you to pick things up around here. 😉
