Authentic Beauty Spotlight: Getting out of a funk, Natural Birth and Inspired Action

~ interview with Jodie Lea Cleave

Authentic — we use that word a lot around here. We are passionate about its meaning — “genuine, real.” We’re shining a light on some of the hard-working, amazing Authentic Beauties that form our Body Enlightenment Team. So grab your smoothie, pop your feet up and get up close and personal with our team members!

Say ‘hi’ to Kellie Lambert, our Promotion and Marketing Director.

authentic beautyWhat do you know about the circumstances of your life when you came into the world?

I am very blessed that I was welcomed into the world by two loving parents. I’m an only child and grew up with a very close relationship to my parents. I was raised in Southern California near the beach and enjoyed a pretty “normal” childhood. We didn’t have a lot of money, but I definitely never went without.

My parents taught me to question things I didn’t understand and think for myself. They taught me the importance of being loving, kind and accepting of others.

Do you remember your earliest answers to the question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” If so, what was it?

There were many things I wanted to be — a writer, a teacher, a business woman, a marine biologist.

What do you do when you’re in a funk to lift yourself up?

Practicing gratitude is my sure-fire way to get out of a funk. And if I can’t think of something to be grateful for in the moment, I just repeat “thank you, thank you, thank you” until I feel better.

Recall a time when you accomplished something you felt proud of. What was it?

Birthing my second baby naturally, with no pain-relieving drugs. I authentic beautylearned how to put myself in a meditative/hypnotic state and allow my body to do what it is supposed to do. It was so empowering to trust in my body and the beauty of the process. It was so different from the birth of my first son that was induced and medicated — not the way I had envisioned it.

But I love how life allows us to experience things that are not ideal, but when you take the time to observe, question and determine what you DO want, then take the steps in that direction, some really beautiful things unfold!

What are the characteristics you most look for in a friend?

Thoughtful, kind, open-minded, fun, loving, easy-going, smart, adventurous.

What would you say are the characteristics your friends admire most about you?

Positive, supportive, enthusiastic, caring, easy to talk to.

If you have a partner in your life, how did you meet that person?  If you don’t, how would you most like to meet your soulmate?

I met my husband 17 years ago (celebrating our 13-year wedding anniversary this month) at a car racing school. We both have a need for speed. 🙂 He strapped me into the race car and said, “So, if you survive this, you need to go out with me.”  And the rest is history…

What are three of the things that bring you the most pleasure in your life right now?

1)My two sons, 2) my beautifully supportive friends and family, 3) the “knowing”  that I can create what I want in my life. I no longer feel like a victim of circumstance. I truly know that I am the creator of my thoughts and what shows up in my life. It’s not always perfect, that’s for sure. But when I get back to that place of remembering that I’m in control of how I show up in my life and the thoughts I think, then things go so well.

What do you think is one of the biggest things holding you back in life right now?

Some old beliefs that rear their ugly head about hard work and making money.

What are you going to do to overcome it?

Remind myself everyday of the following:

“I expand in abundance, success and love every day, as I inspire those around me to do the same.”

authentic beautyPlease share with us one of your dreams-something you hope to be able to achieve in the years to come.

Truly being present with each thing I do and come at everything with enthusiasm. Play and laugh more, bringing joy to me, my family and everyone I touch.

If a mysterious benefactor wrote you a check for $500,000.00 and said, “Use this to make the world better,” what would you do with it?

Oh wow. Where would I start? There are soooo many people and places on our planet that can use financial resources!

I have a passion for kids learning in an open, thought-provoking, hands-on environment. I would do something with promoting this type of education in my community. Maybe even work with someone to create a documentary about the benefits of an open, learner-led education and share it with the world! So many people don’t question how our kids are “educated” and just go with the status quo. I think having children who are independent thinkers and inquisitive leaders can have a HUGE impact on our world as a whole.

What have been the actions and realizations that have most helped you improve your life in the last year?

Taking the Body Enlightenment Virtual Lifestyle Design Retreat has been a real turning point for me in the last 12 months. [tweet_dis]The feeling of being completely responsible for my life, for my decisions and actions doesn’t feel overwhelming anymore.[/tweet_dis] It feels good! It feels empowering, It feels right! I loved the process of discovering this during the course.

And the big action of taking the initiative to talk with Tera about how we can work together — looking, observing, discovering what I want to do and how I can benefit the company and what role I can take on. And then taking inspired, planned action to make it happen. I feel so completely blessed to be working with a team of passionate, smart, uplifting people each day. Amazing!!!
