Natural Beauty: A Do-It-Yourself Recipe For A Soothing, All Natural Lip Balm!

By Chere Harbridge

I absolutely love trying new do-it-yourself beauty product recipes.  In my quest for natural beauty,  I am determined to stop using chemical-laden products on my face and  body – at all costs!  I want to know what’s in the products I use, and the best way to do that is make my own, whenever I can!  And I find that creating your own and putting your own twist on a recipe is so much fun.

If you’re anything like me, you have several lip balms on the go at all times.  I keep one in my bedroom,  one in my car….and one in my pocket – cause, well, I don’t carry a purse!   Here is a basic lip balm that is so easy and quick, and makes so many that you may have to give some away. 🙂

Basic (organic) Lip Balm Recipelips250x156

Ingredients:

  • 1 T beeswax
  • 2 T cocoa, mango, or shea butter
  • 2 T coconut oil
  • 20 drops peppermint essential oil (more or less to your preference – this amount makes the balm cool and minty.

Directions:

Place about an inch of water in a small pan.  Place over medium heat.

Place all the ingredients into a small, pint sized glass jar. (except essential oil) Place jar into warm water to melt the ingredients. Be careful NOT to get water into the jar!

Once the ingredients are melted, turn off the heat. Leave the jar in the pan to keep the ingredients liquid. At this point you can stir in the essential oils.

With a glass dropper, quickly fill the balm containers.  These will settle, so about two minutes later you will want to fill them to the top.

Let sit for several hours until hardened, and then put the cap on.  This will make enough to fill 18 containers.  These containers can be very cheaply purchased at www.mountainroseherbs.com

*A great tip to help keep these containers from falling over is to bind them together with an elastic.

*This will make a medium-firm lip balm.
