Why Waste Money On Expensive Wheatgrass You Can Have It Wild And Free Instead.

By Heather Gardner

We can easily spend a fortune in the pursuit of perfect health, especially when propping up the local juice bar with our wheatgrass habit. Did you know that you could have you grass for free? The stuff that grows wild and free, in the fields and backyards is just as nutritious, and even more so.

Grass contains most of the vitamins and minerals needed for human maintenance. It contains complete protein with about 30 enzymes and approximately 70% chlorophyll, making it like a whole meal. Grass is also an excellent source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulphur and zinc. Most grasses are edible, some experts caution against some varieties, not because they contain toxins but because they are very fibrous. When you are juicing the wild grass, this is not a problem. Avoid picking grass in areas that may have been sprayed with chemicals or where dogs are being walked and near water that looks polluted. Do not confuse grass with iris greens; rushes and sedges which are not very easy to eat.

One of the great things about grass is that most people can identify it. Due to its high nutrition content and abundant availability, grass is a wonderful survival food. If stuck with nothing to eat, you can chew blades of grass, swallowing the juice and spitting out the pulp. Very similar to what a cow does!

If you do not like the grassy taste, try blending the juice with pineapple to neutralise it.
