Grab Your Kids and Head to Where the Wild Things Are

By Simone Münich

What would our world be without plants? Kids love to experience and explore the little secrets of nature by observing, touching and tasting different plants. They are interested in the fun things but they can also enjoy learning about the healing properties and the edible parts of plants when you turn it into a game!

Take Time to Walk and Wonder

Recently I walked out into the forest with the kids of our primary school. It was a chance for the children to use their imaginations and think about all the ways in which plants can be used for creative things or to play with. I could’ve made them memorize each plant name, but this time just experimenting with plants was by far more important than knowing all their names.

Kids have an innate desire for learning and getting them outside into nature is one of the best ways to nurture their love affair with plants and all living things. And once they get to know the plants, you’ll find it’s hard for them to resist their bright colors, beautiful appearance or sweet fragrance.

One of my favorite ways to start the walk is by greeting the earth (everybody touches the earth), the sun (everybody reaches high towards the sun), and the air (fan yourself some air) and each other.

Make Soap from a Plant, Brush Your Teeth with a Leaf!

There are so many wonderful discoveries to make in the forest! Did you know that you can wash your hands with soapwort? You will be surprised how pleasant it is on your skin!

Take one soapwort flower and soak it in some water. Then rub the flower gently between your hands and watch and feel the soapy foam!

Common sage is another surprise of nature. It makes a great toothbrush! Just pick a leaf and scrub it on your teeth, they will be so smooth afterwards!

Art is Everywhere You Look

artistry

Nature is our best teacher and you can create very impressive pieces of art as you take your walk. A fun way to do this is to prepare some simple cardboard frames ahead of time and hand them out to the kids. Now they can run around and find the most artful things in nature and highlight them with their frame!

Don’t Fight It! Kids Love Digging in the Dirt!

And why shouldn’t they? Plunging your hands deep into the soil and getting that earth underneath your fingernails is a luxury we don’t take advantage of these days! Take time today to put down the video games and gadgets and enjoy the endless possibilities that exist outside for imaginative play! Invite your whole family to get back to the basics and listen to ten days of inspiring interviews during our Back to the Wild Summit!

Meet Simone Münich

Simone

Simone is a nature-loving mom of two boys and became interested in healthy eating during her first pregnancy. From that time on she increased her connection to nature by studying phytotherapy and by transforming a former vineyard into a large garden, including a variety of herbs. She spends as much time as possible outdoors and loves to snack from trees, bushes and herbs. Simone also offers home parties for radiant, natural beauty & raw food preparation. She’s never surprised but always fascinated by the level of energy and passion her raw food preparation allows her to experience.
