Breakfast for Champions in Four Easy Ways

By Cristina Cavalieri D’Oro

Ever run into a breakfast rut, where the same meal is being served every morning? Is breakfast usually on the run as you grab whatever you can find? Solutions are on the way with these great healthy natural food alternatives, including a recipe for green chia porridge!

Try These Favorites with a Twist

  1. Homemade Granola can be prepared ahead of time so you have it on hand for the week and the variations of granola are endless! It can be served with nut milk or just on its own and topped with fresh berries. We use sprouted buckwheat as the base for our granola and then we choose a variety of seeds and dried fruits like dates, raisins or mulberries.
  2. Oatmeal is one of my family’s favorites; I grind up steel cut gluten-free oats in a powder and add some spices and fruit to it with some chia seeds. A little secret tip: this mixture will harden after a while so it can be shaped into a cookie and then you have a great snack on hand!
  3. Smoothies are so amazing and versatile, they give us a real energy kick to start the day! Try adding lots of greens in them along with some fruits. I throw in some superfoods like spirulina, chlorella, acai powder, chia seeds or flax seeds for extra nutrition. If you are watching your blood sugar, stevia can be added and some cinnamon or carob powder to give it some great flavor. I alternate with each superfood to have variety.

Get Ready for Power-Packed Porridge!

Chia is not called a SUPERFOOD for nothing! The health benefits of chia seeds are exceptional, including rich omega 3’s, lots of fiber and rich antioxidants – even more than blueberries! Chia seeds are very versatile and great to use as an egg substitute, making puddings, crackers etc. and you can pretty much add them into any recipe. This chia porridge can be done the evening before and warmed in the dehydrator.
