Forget the Whey: Fuel Your Workouts with a Brazil Nut Superfood Smoothie

Even in some health food stores it’s easy to get lost in the bulky bottles of whey protein and powders all designed to help push you through your most arduous workouts. Why not leave all that behind and go for something ultra healthy without the processed ingredients. Reach for Brazil nuts to put the power back in your punch!

You may have some in your family that are reluctant to try anything “healthy,” but this delicious recipe combines the creaminess of fresh brazil nut milk with the sweetness of frozen bananas. Add in some cacao and you’ve got a healthy elixir on your hands that not only tastes better than ice cream, it serves up a triple dose of health-boosting nutrients!

Brazil Nut Superfood Smoothie

Instead of a candy bar before your next workout, whip up this quick smoothie. Cacao provides magnesium, minerals and antioxidants, Brazil nut milk brings a punch of selenium and protein, and maca balances our hormones and heals our adrenals.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Brazil nut milk (See recipe below)
  • 3 medium bananas, frozen
  • 3 T raw cacao powder
  • 1 T raw maca
  • 1 T organic bee pollen (optional)
  • 1 T of your favorite sweetener (optional)

Directions: Blend all the ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth, about 1 minute.

Brazil Nut Milk

Brazil nut milk is super quick to make, as you don’t need to soak the nuts like you would with almonds (although you can soak them if you want). Brazil nuts are full of selenium and other essential nutrients, and are an integral part of a healthy diet!

 

Ingredients: Serves 2-3

  • 1 cup Brazil nuts
  • 3 cups water (or more for a thinner milk)
  • 2 T of your favorite sweetener (optional)

Directions: Blend all and strain through a nut milk bag. Store in a tightly closed jar in the refrigerator for about 4 days.
