Jennifer’s Kitchen Tips for Making Happy Raw-Food Memories

– by Jennifer Holliday

Hi! My name is Jennifer Holliday.  At the time of writing this, I have only been raw for about two weeks now so I am definitely a newbie but I am loving experimenting with raw foods in my kitchen — when my two kids let me have the chance ! 😉

I am still definitely working on kitchen organization but I’ve taken 3 pictures of my favorite spots in the kitchen so far, and come up with 3 corresponding tips.

1. Be Creative With Your Use Of Space

This is actually a picture of the top of my chest freezer!

…Now while I use it mostly to store raw nuts and frozen berries and mangoes (living in an apartment in Utah you have to do the best you can) rather than the meat and cheese and processed food of the past, it is actually the TOP of the freezer that I’m loving because it gives me extra space green smoothie makin’ and salad choppin’!

2. Keep Your Favorite Raw Snacks On Hand At All Times

My second picture is of my dehydrating, sprouting and herb growing station.

When I took this picture, my first EVER flax crackers had just emerged and some yummy nut and sun-dried tomato burgers were gently warming up!

A new discovery of mine is that I have to have sprouts on hand at all times.  …love my sprouts!  I’ve found kalamata olive spread with a fresh tomato and sunflower sprouts on a flax cracker is my new favorite snack!

3. Keep Your Kitchen Family Friendly

Although this little plaque hanging in my kitchen doesn’t seem to have anything to do with raw food, for me it has everything to do with it — and has something to do with organization, too. It reads, “Please excuse the noise and mess the kids are making happy memories”.

Now while I am a little ‘green’ to the whole raw food lifestyle, I believe that sign says it all.  A little organization is key but the rest of my kitchen will probably always stay a little chaotic and messy because we are all making happy memories — and a little nutritional yeast covering my floor or flax seeds strewn across my counter won’t get in the way of that.

So the most notable difference in my kitchen in the last two weeks isn’t really my lack of microwave or the sound of a blender… it’s my family making happy raw-food memories!!!
