Staying On Your Raw Diet When You’re Not In Your Own Kitchen

by Kristen Suzanne

Just because you’re not in your own kitchen doesn’t mean that you can’t maintain your Raw diet. Whether you’re away from your kitchen for the day or a week, these tips will help.

1. Check out your local restaurants

Check local restaurants where you can order raw food or even just some fresh salads. Plan on visiting these places frequently.

Call ahead and see if the restaurants will help you by preparing special foods (if they don’t already have things available on their menu).

2. Look for Health Food Stores

They often have raw snacks and/or fresh salad bars.

3. Pack a Cooler for Trips

If you’re going on a short trip, then pack a cooler. Load it with:

  • green smoothies
  • fresh fruit and veggies
  • nut butter
  • raw packaged snacks
  • raw protein powder with shaker and water.

Heck, even when I go to my mom’s house for the day, I pack a bag or cooler of stuff. She usually has plenty of raw foods for me already, but I’m always prepared.

4. Pack your favourite things from your kitchen

When we went to New York we rented an apartment with a kitchen. I sacrificed taking extra pairs of shoes so that I could bring my High-Powered Blender and Brita water filter.

I also packed other utensils as well as some ingredients such as:

  • raw protein powders
  • nuts and seeds
  • dates, etc.

There are also great travel blenders available like Tribest.

5. Call ahead

stay raw away from homeCall ahead to where you’ll be staying and see what options are available for the kitchen.

If it’s a hotel, try to score a room with a mini-fridge at least. If it’s a bed and breakfast, perhaps they’ll allow you use of the kitchen.

Consider shipping some of your kitchen equipment ahead of time to arrive when you do. If it’s a relative’s house, ask about their kitchen tools.

And, for heavens sake, don’t be shy! If you’re staying with company, just explain that this is your raw diet and you’re doing everything you can to succeed. Ask for help and watch how eager they become to support you.

6. Have raw food and/or organic produce delivered.

You can have raw meals from places such as Pure Market Express and RAWvolution delivered (they can be delivered to hotels, too!).

And, you can use Boxed Greens or Diamond Organics to deliver fresh organic produce.

7. Grow sprouts

This is a great way to stay motivated about your raw diet when you’re not at home.

8. Pack supplements to cover your bases.

For example, green powder, probiotics, digestive enzymes, a whole food multi-vitamin, etc.

As you can see, there are many ways to stay on your raw diet when you’re not in your own kitchen. It just takes a little planning, but it’s well worth it!
