Wow! What a response we got to our post on sugar cravings and what to do about them!

So many of you said that you use dates to stop your sugar cravings, from Greg’s trick of leaving a stash under the car seat to Jo’s snacking on them as an indulgent treat with her Earl Grey tea.

Health Benefits of Dates

So since you guys are so savvy with your sugar cravings, we thought why not take a sneak peak at just how good dates really are for us……

…….and scroll to the bottom for the EASIEST, YUMMIEST way to enjoy a simple date)!

What are the health benefits of dates?

We’re talking about trees that start to bear fruit at around the 4 or 5 year mark and then go on producing dates until around 80; how’s that for reproductive potential?!

No wonder they call it the “Tree of Life” (though that’s more likely because Muslim legend had it that the date palm was made from the dust left over from the creation of Adam – as in Adam and Eve).

  • The are one of the most alkaline foods and contain a special fiber called Beta-D-glucan that decreases the absorption of cholesterol, and keeps blood sugar levels even.  The fiber also adds “bulk” to the stool, helping us feel fuller, which is why it is so great for sugar cravings; it gives us a feeling of satiety.
  • They are also rich in antioxidants and anti-cancer compounds, and as such, are thought to prevent free radical damage in our bodies.
  • They give us a fix of potassium, magnesium, calcium, Vitamin A and a variety of B-complex vitamins, too!

And now for the tasty part…

The best and most simple way to enjoy a date

  • Medjool datesTake a Medjool date (or any kind of date you like)
  • Slice or break it in half
  • Place a walnut in the middle and BAM!

The tastiest treat EVER!
