If you’ve got a regular cravings for sugar, chances are that you’re not getting enough calories in your daily diet.

Q: What’s one of the best ways to ensure you’re getting enough calories in your diet?

A: By eating more fruit!

Eat apricots to stop sugar cravings

Apples, bananas, pears, raspberries, blueberries; you name it!  If you’re getting enough of these delicious, fresh, organic, sun ripened foods, there’s no reason you should be suffering from sugar cravings.

Eat fruit to prevent sugar cravingsIn fact, not only does eating more fruit stop your sugar cravings, they are also packed full with flavonoids, particularly the darker fruits such as berries, cherries and citrus fruits.  Flavonoids act as antioxidants, have direct anti-tumor effects and immune-enhancing properties.

They wouldn’t be so gorgeous and tasty if they weren’t meant to be enjoyed! So eat up!

Q: What about dried fruits?

A: We don’t recommend eating dried fruits outside of the occasional treat

There are 3 few things to remember about dried fruit:

  1. Their calorie content increases by 100% or more of the original fruit (the calorie content of a dried apricot is twice that of a fresh one, and the calorie content of a dried blueberry triples!)
  2. TEat figs to stop sugar cravingshey lose some of their nutritional content during the drying process, notably their Vitamin C content
  3. They can contain sulphur which is added to prevent the inactive ingredients from spoiling, so if you do love dried fruits, buy the unsulphured version.

Q: What about refined sugar?

A: This is the nasty, addictive sugar to be avoided

We get addicted to the neurotransmitters that are released by the consumption of sugar, which is a reaction very similar to the “high” of a drug addict. Consuming sugar also causes our blood sugar levels to rise quickly and then plummet back down just as fast, resulting in a craving for more sugar. This is a desperate (and futile) attempt of our body to keep the blood sugar in balance.

Fresh fruits are therefore THE best way to meet your caloric needs and therefore stop cravings for sugar.Eat apples to stop sugar cravings

  • In the company of plenty of fresh greens and sprouts, they are perfect food for your body.
  • As long as you’re eating enough leafy greens and avoiding excess fat in your diet, there is no need to worry about eating too much fruit or consuming too much fat sugars!

So next time you have a sugar craving and are about to reach for that donut or candy bar, take a moment to think about what your body is asking for.

Could the sweetness of a plum or the crunchiness of an apple satisfy your body’s needs instead?
