90 Day Detox Day 9: I’m Going to be a RAWKSTAR!

Written by Tera on February 25, 2009 – -

I have the biggest news ever, but you’ll have to wait because FIRST, it’s time for an update:

This week has been a SUPER green week. My new friend has been dishing out a heavy, HEAVY dose of GREEN whenever we`ve been spending time together. I don`t know all about detox, but I can`t wait to have our call with Dr. Ritamarie where we ask her all the questions about detox reactions. I`m sure there`s a lot of myth out there. Coming from a natural hygiene background, then listening to all the Doctor T lectures, now spending time with the Wheatgrass and Enzyme Boy of the Year, my head is kinda spinning. I mean, for the first time I really get how totally confusing it is to make sense of all the different paths there are in the Raw Food movement.

My friend served me up some wheatgrass juice the other day. It was just a title shooter glass full, but within a minute I was SO ready to barf. “Ahhh…” says he, “Detox!”

“Detox!? What the hell do you mean, detox?!”

I haven`t really asked for explanations or proof. I`ve just been going through the flow and observing my body`s responses. He has a whole artillery of strange detox elixirs loaded up with garlic, olive oil, and lemon. If I dare sneeze, sniffle or wipe my nose in his presence, I`m passed the latest chug-this-down-fast concoction. I`ve been getting doses of bentonite clay to “soak up” the toxins and “Vitaspec” to help the barfy feelings go away.

The more I learn the more I realize how much I don`t know.

Who knew Little Miss Raw Food would be getting a major detox lesson from her Valentine`s date? (I`m typing at my son`s school on the teacher`s French keyboard, so we`re going to have some avant garde exclamation and punctuation marks today).

Anyway, the second time I had the wheatgrass juice it didn`t make me want to puke at all. That was apparently the proof that I was now slightly less toxic. So, he dished me up with a green juice.

But this was no friendly green juice. This was a green juice boot camp juice. HARD CORE, I tell you. I don`t know what to think of all these elixirs and experimental beverages that have been going into my body lately. I don`t know what to think about “pH” and other ideas like this.

I know apples and pears are easy and make sense.

I know lettuce tastes good and is crunchy.

I`ve certainly been awfully simple in my food choices compared to some. I`m curious and willing to try things. But dear friends, whatever you do, make this your golden rule:

“I make decisions based upon my own experience and not what other people tell me. My path is the right path for me.”

Today’s Success Story

Welcome to my adventures!

My name is Veronica and I live Down Under on the south coast of NSW (New South Wales) in Australia. If you don’t understand something I’ve written here, then ask away! Aussie English is a bit different to US English. lol

I’ve been on an interesting journey heading towards raw foods for about ten years now. Healthier eating first piqued my interest when Mum asked me to go with her to a course in vegetarian cooking held at one of the local churches. We had a great time, and learnt a lot as well.

Hubby wasn’t so keen, however, and after I went ovo-lacto vegetarian for two weeks he put his foot down and wanted meat again. At this stage, I wasn’t aware of the effects that eating no meat at all for two weeks and then eating steak would have on my system. Sad My body was NOT happy at all.

Our diet wasn’t the usual SAD fare, as we used a lot of fresh fruit & veg, and cooked most things from scratch. We started incorporating vegetarian meals on a weekly basis, and increased this to having two or even three nights a week without meat.

Then in 2004 I ordered a Breville Juice Fountain using Fly Buys (frequent shopper’s card thingy). I LOVED IT!!! My sister came to live with us for a while, and introduced me to beetroot, celery, carrot, apple, and ginger juices. I had a wonderful time!

At the beginning of last year my daughter and I were in a nasty car accident. She fractured her skull in two places, needed her skull drilled near one of the fractures to remove a blood clot the size of a 50cent piece (approx 1 to 1.5″ diameter), fractured three ear bones in her left ear, and was bruised like you wouldn’t believe! I got off easier, with a concussion (from which my poor old brain is still recovering) and a compression fracture to my L3 vertebra. Oh – and some pretty bruises, too, although nothing as spectacular as my daughter’s bruises.

This on top of fibromyalgia (I’ve had this for approx 9yrs now) really didn’t do my weight or overall health much good at all. So I started researching online (wearing a back brace for four months kind of limited my activities) and did I find a lot! :-O I started juicing again, and started incorporating raw foods into my diet.

Here is my favourite intermediate food recipe for popcorn avocado:

2-4 corn thins (like thin rice cakes, but made from corn) – crumbled
1 avocado – mushed up or diced
1 tomato – finely diced
finely chopped eschallots (like spring onions, but flat rather than a bulb)
alfalfa sprouts
fresh lemon juice
celtic sea salt
Mix it all up in a good-sized bowl and enjoy!

The avocado helped to give me the “full” feeling I was used to, whilst the corn thins were a good bread substitute.

I went two months as 100% raw over June/July last year, however with all that was happening (we moved and lived with friends for four months before settling where we are now in Nov) I went back to wheat, dairy, and coffee. Sad

On Feb 14 – yep! Valentine’s Day – I made the decision that it was time for a new start. When I saw the 90 Day Detox, I just HAD to join up! What perfect timing.. Smile

Phew! That was kind of an epic, wasn’t it? Well, now you know where I’m coming from, and I’m looking forward to the journey with you over the next months.

Blessings,
Veronica

MY BIG NEWS!

Okay, soooo I totally flunked on getting this out before midnight, (even though most of it was ready in time, I just couldn’t pump out the ending and keep my eyes open.  I even flunked for going to BED, because this evening I DID crash on the couch for a couple hours BUuuuuuuuUUUUuuuuT,

…it’s all going to be excused because today was a CRAZY day. I got a phone call from CTV (that’s one of Canada’s main television networks) who contacted me about a feature they are doing on Raw Food this Sunday!

Soooo, they’re going to be filming me TOMORROW! (But it’s really today, now–Wednesday). I’m soooo excited! Watch out world, here comes the Green Smoothie guzzlin’ Raw Food Lovin’ Redhead to rock your blenders!

Okay, Cupcake! Thanks for all the messages and stories you’ve been sending in. I adore you and am so grateful for your enthusiastic participation.

Okay, so, don’t worry, Snuggle Puff. I’ll still remember you when I’m a famous RAWK STAR on TV.

Loooove you like glue!

xo
