The Mother Letter Project

Written by Stacey on December 14, 2008 – -

Oh, my goodness, I’ve just heard about the most amazing project. It’s called The Mother Letter Project, and it was started by – a man!

A wonderful, caring husband is wanting to compile a list of “mother letters” for his wife for Christmas, and is asking for contributions. If you contribute, a copy of the compilation will be emailed to you.

The website says:

“Simply stated, a Mother Letter is a letter from you, to another mother. You may share a story – no matter how raw or difficult. You may share your concerns or worries – no matter how foolish they may seem. You may share your wisdom – no matter how you came by it. Share your mother story; your Mother Letter. The only request? Start the letter “Dear Mother” and sign it (electronically, of course).”

Doesn’t this sound like a great idea? Imagine your sharing your wisdom, fears and thoughts about being a mum, knowing that the mothers reading will no doubt be nodding their heads, drying their tears and laughing along with you? As will you, when you read their letters? If you’re interested in more, check out the site – it also has links to heaps of fab blog sites, and information on very worthy charities.

I think I’ll carve out a couple of hours this weekend to make a contribution of my own. Will you join me? To give you ideas for your own letter, here’s an inspiring Mother Letter entry from mother of six, Lisa. It brought a tear to my eye.

Oh, what a beautiful gift for this man’s lucky wife – and how wonderful that we get to share in that gift.

I’m sure that, given time, my husband would have thought of an idea like this. Wouldn’t you, darling?!

Hi Lisa! No, thank YOU for your wonderful mother letter entry – it was so inspiring! It was a privilege to be involved with the project, and reading the letters has made me want to hug each and every mum who opened their hearts through the letters. I’ve shed lots of tears, and enjoyed lots of giggles!
