Less-is-More Green Smoothie

Written by admin on December 29, 2008 – -

We arrived back from vacation and I wanted to create a green smoothie with just a few ingredients, so I thought that I would keep it simple and choose ingredients that would be good for digestion.

Romaine lettuceRomaine Lettuce

Romaine is a type of leaf lettuce that  is available all year long, and is at its peak from mid-winter to early spring.  Romaine lettuce is the most nutrient-dense of all the lettuce varieties and is an excellent source of vitamins A, B1, B2, C, folic acid, manganese, chromium and is also a good source of fiber.

As a side note, if you ever have a day where your nerves are a little frazzled and I’ve had a few, juice four leaves of kale, half a head of green cabbage, and half a head of romaine lettuce.  I was a little apprehensive at first to try this recipe, but it really worked especially after having a pineappleday where I ran after my 2 year old son.

Less-is-More Green Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 and 1/2 cups pineapple
  • 1/2 head romaine lettuce

Blend and enjoy!

Mmm…. That does sound like a very refreshing smoothie. :-) I will have to try the one for soothing nerves. I’ve not found kale for sale in the shops, so will need to plant some.

Veronica if you can’t find kale, what other leafy greens are available in your area?

Also you should try a little cauliflower in the smoothie. It doesn’t taste, unless you put to much, and give added roughage. And it taste pretty good too.

Secret Gardener thanks for the tip, I’ll try that the next time I buy cauliflower.
