Family Slushie (Frozen Green Smoothie with Bananas, Mangos, and Spinach)

Written by admin on December 12, 2008 – -

green smoothie slushie - bananas and mangoes
We’ve been buying extra mangoes and bananas because they are in season Down Under, and freezing the extras. I went to make a large batch of mango smoothie, and discovered a slushie!

Summer Green Slushie!

  • 200g (7oz) frozen baby English spinach leaves
  • 4-6 frozen bananas
  • 3 frozen mangoes

I put the above ingredients into my food processor and processed them on high until they were chopped up. I then slowly added water (to the desired consistency) and didn’t want to wait for it to thaw out, so had it as a smoothie. This made up 2 litres (quarts).

Yum!!! What a great summer dessert.

Blessings,
Veronica

Veronia thanks for sharing. When I was younger and I would visit my grandparents for the summer, they would take me to a tiny little store to get a slush drink.

Thanks for bringing back the memories!

Thinking about the summer has me dreaming for warmer times! This smoothie sounds wonderful. I’ve not tried frozen mangos. That’s next on my list.

I love these summer posts when it’s winter here — inspiration and hope that summer will indeed come eventually again. :-)

With my choices here in WI, I’ve found that purchasing frozen mangoes (any time of year) gives me better results than trying to purchase and use the mangos in the store here. Yum!

I love the idea of freezing mangoes. Sorry for my ignorance about freezing.
Do you cut the mangoes and freeze or just keep the whole mango as it. How long can stay good in the freezer?

Sonali – no need to apologise. :-)

We cut the mangoes and scrape all of the flesh out, then put the flesh into a freezer bag. Just try to have the bag lie flat so that creases don’t form.

I think that they should be fine for up to 6 months if frozen properly, although I’ll need to check up on that for you.

    Blessings,
    Veronica
