Green Smoothie Day Good News!
Written by Tera on August 16, 2008 – -
Well, our official Green Smoothie Day has kicked off and the good green smoothie news is coming in!
We posted yesterday that Kristen of Kristen’s Raw popped on board, and Brian Johnson, creator of Philosopher’s Notes, has also jumped onboard with his gorgeous fiancée Alexandra Jaye (*smooooch*) and another TEN Green Smoothie Participants will be awarded the Philosopher’s Notes program for FREE!!
Whooo hoooo! The prizes and support for our Green Smoothie Day have been rolling in and no matter which way you look at it, if you’re contributing, sending in feedback and helping make this a special event, then chances are good you’re going to come out a WINNER!! Winner’s will be announced after the 3rd Day of our Green Smoothie Challenge. We want to give everyone a chance to come out of the closet and contribute!!!
Today, Green Smoothie Challenge participants are starting their first day of our 3 Day Green Smoothie Challenge and I just want to raise my Green Smoothie Jug in honor of all those who are venturing out on this for the very first time!
It takes guts to change and implement these strange, unsightly green drinks into our lives, but for many of you, you’ve taken up the challenge like troopers and we want to acknowledge you for it.
Kristen also submitted one of her favorite Green Smoothie Recipes in support of those who are looking for a few more ideas:
“One my favorite green smoothie recipes is simply apples, spinach and cinnamon. I love how the apples make it “fluffy” and the spinach adds a lovely creaminess to it. And, if you use red delicious apples (they’re reported to have the highest levels of phytonutrients) then you get gorgeous little flecks of red swirling around as you drink.”
Fluffy Green Smoothie
1 1/2 cups water
2 handfuls spinach
2 apples
1/2 t cinnamon
Give it a whirl in your blender and enjoy!!!
**Thanks, Kristen!**
Members of the 3 Day Challenge get dozens of recipes for free, and those participants who purchase our newest unveiling The Green Smoothie Queen’s Complete Guide to Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Green Smoothies (whew, that’s a long one!) have well over 80 new recipes to look forward to, as well as tonnes and tonnes of information about Green Smoothies and Green Eating, in general.
Some of you may be wondering… “Why August 15th for Green Smoothie Day?”
Well, today is Tera’s Mom’s birthday! You can find her mom in The Powder Room. She’s “Mom” and has been here since we sprouted this project cheering everyone one and getting involved to support so much of what we do.
It just so happens that Tera’s Mom’s favorite color is… GREEN! And so, we decided that we would sing the praises of Green on Tera’s Mom’s birthday. Happy birthday, Mom!!! We loooooove you!
Speaking of Moms…
…it looks like Amy’s mom is in the running to be the winner of the Blendtec Total Blender, because she’s the first one to tell us about her Green Smoothie Party she has the other day when she invited at least 7 people to her place in the name of Green Smoothie celebrations.
Any other contenders care to step up to the plate and let us know what you’re doing to help spread the good news?
Did you invite your co-workers, pass around samles at church on Sunday?
If you’ve signed up for our Green Smoothie Challenge, then anything you do to help spread the world of Green Smoothies qualifies you as a potential winner of a brand, spanky new Blendtec Total Blender!
More Green Smoothie love is coming in through the Grapevine thanks to Raw Yoga Mom, Jamie Abrams. She’s running for one of our Seasoned Green Smoothie Maker Awards!!
Green Toledo Smoothie
mango or papaya juice (a little more than you would need to cover the blades)
1 big banana (fresh or frozen)
1 yellow fleshed nectarine
4-6 strawberries
2+ big handfuls of spinach
Blend until smooth. Pour into funky cups with straws. Slurp until empty!
Green Beginnings
A friend introduced me to green smoothies many years ago using a very similar recipe to this one.
1 young coconut (water and flesh)
1 TBS cacao nibs
1-2 medjool dates (optional)
monster size portions of kale (any variety)
Blend until smooth. Be prepared to take on the world!
Cosmopolitan Greens
This recipe is DELICIOUS, but it does require some more unusual ingredients. So if you are feeling exotic give it a go!
freshly juiced orange and passion fruit (at the bare minimum use enough to cover the blender blades)
1 banana
1 nectarine
handful of frozen strawberries
1-2 dessert spoons of coconut oil (make sure it is melted)
1 dessert spoon Irish moss (pre-soaked and turned into jelly-like consistency)
2+ handfuls of spinach or any greens
Blend until creamy. Lap it in like a goddess!
We also want to take our hats off to Brenda, who sent in her juicy green treat to share!
Brenda’s Minty Greens
One of my staple green smoothies is:
2 bananas
1 1/2 cups of spring water
2-3 large handfuls of baby spinach
5-6 mint leaves
whatever fresh or frozen fruit I desire or have on hand
SO YUMMY!!!
Sometimes I substitue a mango for the bananas–really refreshing this way also.
Thanks for the wonderful, supportive emails. I truly appreciate them. Keep up the wonderful work!!
Hugs & Blessings,
-Brenda
THANK YOU!! So much to everyone who is submitting their yumminess and enthusiasm as part of this adventure with us. Heck… I think we may just need to start our own Green Smoothie Blog!
(Unfortunately, due to my crazy day of travel, car, boat, airplane and walking in the rain just to get to lovely Newfoundland, I wasn’t able to post this message earlier! Now I’ve got dozens of other messages and updates to check out in my inbox! Hope everyone had a most magnificent Green Smoothie adventure. Thanks so much for your support and participation!)

Thanks for the smoothy recipes, I’ve been looking for some different ones. I’m getting ready to go completely raw for one month straight. Taking stock after that with what didn’t work and try to figure why it didn’t work. I live in northern Alberta in a small community and finding good produce in our one grocery store can sometimes be difficult. My girlfriend said she’d do it with me! Can you (or anyone point me to some raw menus?
